“It’s a robot dating show, Mrs. Cochran!” my student shouted from the floor while smiling and giggling.

“Look! Ours both met at the flagpole,” her classmate said excitedly.

My special needs students, ages 10-11, had been working on coding KUBO for about a week. They had learned functions and subroutines. (We hadn’t even gotten to loops, yet.) Everyone was engaged, active, and, most importantly, having fun.

I was wondering . . . Big questions and big conversations: SEL Contest

Posted by Jessica Born on November 21, 2019

We’re all about preparing students for the world they will live in. Developing skills for school, work, and life through hands-on learning has been our core since Pitsco’s inception. For today’s learners, social and emotional learning, along with skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, play a crucial role in 21st-century education. We’re proud to support the I Was Wondering contest from Red T Media, an initiative that also shares in our mission to help young minds learn how to think, instead of just what to think.

KUBO takes a spin with new coding concepts

Posted by Molly Underwood on November 05, 2019

Blog concept and activity coauthor: Paige Bowman

Digital literacy is a key to the future, and KUBO Robotics is helping you lead the charge to understand it. Coding can be an overwhelming, confusing tech language to learn and can sometimes be even harder to teach. But with help from KUBO, kids can start learning how to code at the early age of five, and educators have resources and guidance at the ready to help facilitate the experience.

KUBO has been empowering students in a hands-on and screen-free way, teaching them how to think rather than what to think. To develop even more complex coding skills and an abstract way of thinking, KUBO has created a new set of TagTiles® called Coding++.

Ever since KUBO, the screen-free, plug-and-learn robot, debuted in US classrooms in 2018, elementary students across the nation have been introduced to the concepts of coding in an easy, hands-on way by simply piecing together the TagTiles® that contain the code necessary to make KUBO move. And now, more and more educators are discovering the breadth of learning possibilities through KUBO’s various resources.

National Techies Day: Definitely a reason to celebrate

Posted by Preston Frazier on October 03, 2019

“Technology makes the world a new place.”
 – Shoshana Zuboff

Yes . . . we’re celebrating another holiday. This one might be a little obscure, but it’s worth recognizing. October 3 is National Techies Day. Per Merriam-Webster, a “techie is a person who is very knowledgeable or enthusiastic about technology and especially high technology.” One would naturally assume that National Techies Day is all about those who love smartphones, smart watches, smart homes, and anything else deemed smart. And that’s true to some degree, but there’s also another aspect of it that is even cooler than the latest tech – promoting technology-based careers to today’s learners and future workforce.
