Move over R/C, there is a new way to control a robot!

Posted by Admin on January 31, 2019

It’s here, it’s finally here! With the delivery of the 2019 Big Book, Pitsco and TETRIX® Robotics released the much-anticipated TETRIX Tele-Op Control Module. The module connects to a TETRIX PRIZM® Robotics Controller and allows for remote control operation of your robot via Bluetooth. In layman’s terms (yep, this one is for me 😊), it serves as the go-between for transferring code from your PRIZM to the SONY PS4 DUALSHOCK 4 controller and its many buttons.

FIRST® Tech Challenge teams: We’re here for you!

Posted by Preston Frazier on January 22, 2019

They say this time of year is for professional football and college basketball. Depending on your favorite team, this might be the case. However, as one of Pitsco’s educational consultants, I beg to differ. This is the time of year for gears, motors, beams, channels, and wheels!

FIRST® Tech Challenge season is in full swing, and many teams are deeply entrenched in the engineering design process, making modifications and slight adjustments to their already robust robots. If you remember from my travels to Minnesota, this year’s competition takes teams to the Moon in an out-of-this-world competition.

Computer Science Education Week: Teaching coding one hour at a time

Posted by Tommy Ly on December 06, 2018

This winter, as you keep the seasonal cold at bay, I hope you catch the Hour of Code. This week marks what has become quite famously known as Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek). The event began as an initiative with a purpose to improve access to and quality of technology education in schools by engaging policy makers. Its time frame in the second week of December honors the late Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (December 9, 1906-January 1, 1992), a pioneer programmer who laid the groundwork for syntax-to-machine language compilers. And as computer folklore would have it, she was among the engineers in 1947 who discovered the first actual computer system “bug” – a moth to be precise (CSEdWeek).

Robotics: Connecting school, work, life

Posted by Patty Cooke on October 18, 2018

Administrators and teachers in the Yakima (WA) School District are determined to give their students every opportunity to succeed – in school and in life.

Already home to an extensive CTE program, the district has decided to give students even more opportunities by expanding their robotics programs. To that end, they’ve added nine TETRIX® MAX R/C Getting Started Packages, two Robotics: Urban Search & Rescue Challenge Sets, and 20 TETRIX MAX Dual-Control Robotics Sets to their program.

We had the chance to speak with CTE Technical Support Specialist Eric Franz about the district’s intentional efforts to grow robotics opportunities for students.
