New products, new opportunities!

We love this time of year! The routines of a new school year are rolling right along, and enthusiasm is still on high. We also love releasing the latest editions of two of our annual catalogs. We’re stoked about the coding and robotics solutions and STEAM products in the 2019-20 Elementary STEM catalog! Let’s dive into some of the highlights.

Watch Out Fashion Industry: Wearing Code Is the Latest Trend!

Outfit your students with the latest wearable tech! Code Cube is a learning tool that offers teachers and students a true coding experience that isn’t based on a robot. Using the programmable LED screen with its built-in accelerometer and sound output features, students employ block-based programming to create artistic animations, colors, and patterns that can play sounds or change as the students move around.

Code Cube enables students to learn programming with their very own wearable tech that’s unique to them. Learners begin by using the bitmapping technology in the software to bring their wearable to life, eventually progressing to becoming more advanced coders by integrating loops and sensor inputs and outputs to animate their wearable and make it react to movement. With a limited number of hardware components, an appropriate number of software commands, and a web-based software, Code Cube is the ultimate jumping-off point to teach the basics of coding in a classroom. Combine this with its simplistic setup, and it’s a sure win for teachers, especially those who might be apprehensive about integrating coding in their classroom.

Also included in the solution is a downloadable teacher’s guide with a variety of guided and open-ended lesson plans and projects. Through each activity, students are shown a coding skill or application, asked to practice it, and then given free rein to apply the skills they’ve learned through open-ended challenges.

If You Can See It, You Can Be It!

Smart Buddies™ help students see themselves in STEM! This new coding offering features a set of diverse, relatable characters on self-balancing, programmable scooters called Siggys, which enables learners to better envision themselves working in STEM fields.

The solution uses the Smart Buddies app, where students are introduced to buddy-based e-books and block-based coding missions. Its focus on storytelling combined with engaging coding challenges immerses students in the day and life of their buddy’s backstory, and students also learn language arts, science, and mathematics while practicing critical social-emotional learning skills.

Smart Buddies not only offer the opportunity to create space within the classroom for students of all backgrounds to learn basic coding and STEM concepts, but they also enable students to have fun, hands-on experiences and lessons in which they feel a sense of belonging and can identify with a STEM career.

Smart Buddies are available in a customizable four-pack, which enables teachers to customize their buddies based on the demographics of their classroom.

Adding the “Art” in STEAM!

A great addition to any classroom or makerspace, the 3Doodler Start pen gets the attention of any student in a split-second.

The pen is simple and easy to use and can be used to add art to any activities in the classroom – science, technology, engineering, math, or any cross-curricular combination. The 3Doodler Start pen comes in a convenient six-pack or 12-pack, including filament and teacher’s kit.

Need More STEM + Computer Science + Robotics All in One Package? Yes, Please!

UBTECH is making waves in elementary! With UBTECH‘s UKIT Beginner, students experience both robot construction and coding. Following a guided build, students progress through the engineering design process, incorporating rapid prototyping and iterative design. Simultaneously, they advance through a coding experience that starts with physical manipulation of the constructed models, which results in visual code creation, and they can move to block-based programming with the ability to view real-time syntax.

How are they different from other options out there? UKITs are designed to support multiple projects that increase in complexity as the learning progresses, inviting students to build, deconstruct, and assemble their own creations.

  • Durable kit elements ensure long-lasting usability.
  • Precise servos enable precise, human-like movement.
  • UKITs are founded on UBTECH’s robotics industry experience and research base.

The UBTECH app is exciting and accessible for all kids! The free UBTECH Education app provides 360-degree, three-dimensional, step-by-step instructions for 13 models that are easy to follow, so students can quickly get started and immerse themselves in the build.

  • Icon-based system
  • Program motors, sensors, and movements from your Bluetooth-enabled device
  • Drive, code, and bring your robotic creations to life

UKIT Beginner offers high-quality curriculum that fills gaps in traditional science courses. This NGSS-aligned curriculum builds student and teacher confidence while inspiring curiosity and engagement throughout. Get a sneak peek or a full download of the curriculum today!

And that‘s just the beginning. From individual items and activities to class packs and classroom solutions, there are options and opportunities for every teacher and goal. Visit Pitsco.com for additional information. Download or request your Elementary STEM catalog today.
