I was wondering . . . Big questions and big conversations: SEL Contest

We’re all about preparing students for the world they will live in. Developing skills for school, work, and life through hands-on learning has been our core since Pitsco’s inception. For today’s learners, social and emotional learning, along with skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and communication, play a crucial role in 21st-century education. We’re proud to support the I Was Wondering contest from Red T Media, an initiative that also shares in our mission to help young minds learn how to think, instead of just what to think.

Red T Media is seeking 100,000 young thinkers to discuss big questions in the classroom! It’s a simple opportunity with some big rewards – tangible and intangible. To enter the contest, here’s what you’ll need to do with your class:

  • Watch one (or all) of Red T Media’s easily accessible videos in their recent YouTube series, featuring a nine-year-old thinker, some pretty big questions, and a bunch of really interesting grown-up minds.
  • Try one of the accompanying lesson plans for inspiration.
  • Create a video/podcast, a poster, or a booklet with your class demonstrating that they’ve also had a great conversation about one of these questions prompted by the video(s) and lesson(s).

I Was Wondering is completely free to enter. It runs until January 31, 2020, and is open to Grades 2-6 in Canada, the United States, or the UK. Red T also welcomes entries from community troops (e.g. Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts) and other extracurricular groups with similar learning objectives.

Three grand prizes winners will receive an eight-pack set of Smart BuddiesTM, our innovative, programmable solution that also encourages storytelling, social and emotional learning, and inclusivity through coding and computational thinking. Three grand prizes will be awarded! Plus, there are some pretty sweet prizes for runner-up entries too.

We cannot wait to hear more about the conversations your classrooms have. Endurable, future-ready skills are built now. Thank you for playing an undeniable role in this work.
